Water Fire extinguisher

Water Fire Extinguishers

Water fire extinguishers carry a bright RED label. They are designed for Class A fire risks, the most prevalent type of fire, so are the most popular of all fire extinguisher types. They distribute water at a high pressure to extinguish the fire.

Designed for Organic Material fires – Class A

Water fire extinguishers are suitable for fires caused by:

  • paper & cardboard
  • wood
  • fabrics & textiles
  • coal

How Water Fire Extinguishers work

Water fire extinguishers work by spraying water at the burning materials. This water has a cooling effect which reduces the heating element required to keep the fire burning. This slows the speed at which the fire burns until ultimately the flames are put out and the fire is extinguished.

There are four different types of water fire extinguisher: water jet, water spray, water with additives and water mist or fog.
