Foam Fire Extinguishers
Foam fire extinguishers carry a CREAM label. They are designed for fires involving flammable liquids, but they can also be used on organic materials. The foam forms a seal over the surface of the fire to starve it of oxygen.
Designed for Flammable Liquid fires – Class B
Foam fire extinguishers are suitable for fires caused by:
- petrol & diesel
- solvents
- paint
- alcoholic spirits
Foam fire extinguishers can also be used on Class A Organic Material fires.
How Foam Fire Extinguishers work
Foam fire extinguishers work in two ways. Firstly, the foam creates a cooling effect on the surface of the burning liquid, reducing its temperature. The foam then creates a barrier that prevents flammable vapour reaching the air. This starves the fire of fuel and ultimately extinguishes the fire.
